Mostly, this is due to the fact that we have less time to be physically active and thus lose muscle mass. Think there is nothing you can do to fight this? Think again! Here are 5 tips to help you boost your metabolism. 1. Drink a whey protein shake every morning Having a protein shake for breakfast every morning not only nourishes the body but it helps us avoid the food slip ups we often make later in the day. Look for low-carb, low-fat whey proteins with little to no sugar. Avoid soy proteins as they are inferior sources that don't boost your energy boosting capabilities in the same way. 2. Add exercise to your diet every day Even if you don't have time to hit the gym 3 times a week, going for long walks, especially right after eating can be great for your metabolism. A brisk walk will get your muscles hungry for the sugar you have just ingested. Also, try incorporating even light weights to build muscle and boost metabolism. Working out just 2 to 3 days a week for 30-60 minutes can have a big impact on your metabolism and overall energy levels. 3. Eat your greens Greens offset the high-calorie foods we eat and help kill cravings. Green vegetables are also packed with nutrients and appetite reducing fiber. 4. Choose to eat clean proteins Choosing high quality lean proteins allow our bodies to use them as energy instead of storing them as fat. Try turkey, chicken, fish, soy, whey protein and egg whites. High fat proteins have the opposite effect and will cause our bodies to store fat. Furthermore, our bodies will not use up our stored fat as long as we continue to give it high fat foods no matter how much we exercise. 5. Eat your fiber! Eating at least 25 grams of fiber per day will help you feel full and curb your cravings for sugary food later in the day. If you can try to get your fiber from vegetables but if you must, add packets of Benefibre to your water and drink throughout the day.
November Healthy Recipe - Traditional Cacciatore Originally, before tomatoes were introduced to Italy, cacciatore was made with balsamic vinegar instead of tomatoes and so this recipe is a hybrid as it uses both. This traditional, rustic recipe is easy and the perfect warm comfort food for a cold November Vancouver day. 4 chicken legs (thigh + drumstick), bone in and cleaned 1. Sprinkle both sides of chicken with the salt and pepper. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and when it is very hot, add oil. Add chicken, skin side down and cook for 3 minutes. Add the bacon and cook until the chicken is browned, about 4 minutes on each side. Transfer chicken to a platter. Drain off the bacon fat and reheat the skillet. 3. Add the tomatoes, veal stock, wine, vinegar, and rosemary and cook for 15 minutes. 4. Return the chicken to the pan and cook until the chicken is heated through, about to 3 minutes. Serve chicken with your favorite steamed vegetables, brown rice or creamy polenta. |
